General Questions

1What is the minimum age?
We suggest a minimum age of 2 years old and up.
2What is the max weight?
The maximum weight of a rider is 25kg. Adhering to this weight limit is important as damage will occur if heavier riders are engaged. Any damage caused to the ookkie due to use over 25KG is not covered under warranty.
3Is there any assembly required?
The only part that will require assembly is attaching the child support handle. This will require a 2.5mm hex key (allen key)
4How old is too old for a child to use the ookkie?
The major factor in using the ookkie is determined by weight (25kg max), as we have specifically designed the ookkie for an average starting age of 2. If your child is under, or up to this weight, they will be good to roll.
5Can I change wheels, bearings trucks of the ookkie?
Yes! The trucks and wheel bearings are universal which means you will be able to modify/change these parts. We will not however, cover any damage which occurs whilst modifying or changing parts.
6How many riders can use the ookkie at once?
It is mandatory that only 1 rider be engaged on the ookkie at any one time.
7How long before I can take the handles off for my child to roll solo?
As each child develops their balance and coordination at a different rate, parental discretion is paramount to the decision on whether to let your child roll solo. The ookkie has been created to make learning to skate safer, not to endanger or push young riders beyond their capabilities. Young riders should always be under direct adult supervision and only when the adult is 100% confident, should the next stage be considered.
8My child is finding it hard to stay on while I push is this normal?
Completely normal at first. Although the ookkie is the safest way for little riders to learn, it is still a new and different process. Confidence on the board should increase with practise. Having the parent assisted handle means that you can be actively involved in helping the process be a fun one. Be patient and enjoy watching them progress, helping them get better and gain confidence is the best part!
9Can I leave my ookkie outside?
We don’t recommend leaving your ookkie in the elements. Although it has been built with premium materials, it still needs to be stored under cover/inside and out of the weather. Damaged caused by leaving your ookkie in the elements will impact the ability to claim under warranty.
10My ookkie does not look like the colour online?
All colours are as close to what is represented on our website as possible. Photos and lighting makes it very hard to show a true representation through the website. All efforts have been taken to ensure the closest possible colour match has been provided, however colours may vary slightly.
11I have changed my mind and want to return my ookkie?
12How do I find out more about how to use and set up my ookkie?
All you need to know regarding setting up and using your ookkie is in the instruction manual, which is included in you ookkie box.

Who are we?

1Who are we?
Skate Innovation was born in 2015 with the vision of getting children as young as 2 years old on a skateboard in the safest possible way. Before the ookkie™, the only two ways for a child to learn to skateboard was by either an adult physically holding them and awkwardly shuffling, or going it alone. Until now these methods have failed to recruit very young participants. We wanted to bring the sport to these young ones, teaching children the fundamentals of skating: balance, coordination and awareness. We have spent 18 months extensively designing, engineering and manufacturing the ookkie into a unique 4 in 1 learning skateboard that significantly increases safety and helps to build the foundation of balance and coordination.

How does each riding stage work?

1Beginner Level
With two adjustable handles an upper and lower, this phase allows the parent to utilize the upper handle to control both speed and direction whilst the lower handle adds a point of contact for the rider to hold. This lower handle significantly increases stability and allows the rider to develop the fundamentals of skateboarding.
2Intermediate Level
Having mastered the basics in the beginners phase, the board now transitions with child to the next level. The upper handle can be removed leaving the lower the handle for the rider to take control. As confidence grows the rider can let go of the handle when they feel stable enough to do so yet it remains there for support if needed.
3Advanced Level
Having graduated from the previous stage both handles are now fully removed and the rider is armed with all necessary skills to take it to the next level. They have developed their balance and coordination to the point where they can confidently skate unassisted and start focusing on trying to master more complicated maneuvers.
